About Jameel
Since the age of 3 years old, Jameel’s passion for the performing arts has played a vital role in his upbringing & shaping his development as an individual. Throughout his adolescence, Jameel spent the bulk of his time dancing around the house with with his mother, showing her his best Michael Jackson impressions, watching music videos on channels like BET & MTV, and just exploring all of his creative interests whether it be dance, music, or writing poetry.
Growing up in the city of Philadelphia has shaped the very essence of the way that he not only views art, but the way he uses his artistic voice as well. Philadelphia has always been known to have abolitionists roots that are still very present til this day. Home to pro-black initiatives such as the MOVE organization, Jameel has always taken pride in his hometown’s historical & cultural identity. His late Grandfather LeRoy Hammond (former member of the Philadelphia chapter of the Black Panther Party) played a huge influence on shaping Jameel’s voice as a Black multifaceted creative, by always encouraging him to use his creative endeavors as a medium for social change. It is through this philosophy that Jameel aspires to create art that serves as a vessel to inspire the younger generation of Black artists all over the world.
Some of Jameel’s most notable accomplishments include performing alongside A-list artists such as Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion, touring with critically acclaimed dance companies such as PHILADANCO, and even venturing on to start his own production company M3(ME) Productions; which serves as parent organization to his project-based dance company, MOV3 Dance Collective. Through his additional talents as a highly skilled instructor, public speaker, and visionary, Jameel Hendricks hopes to further the craft of the performing arts by continuing his ventures such as his mentorship/outreach programs in collaboration with The School District of Philadelphia, as well as continuously creating performance/employment opportunities for Black & Brown creatives alike.
