TRAINING HISTORY
Time Line
Without the home of Neo-soul, also known as the city of brotherly love, Jameel Hendricks would not be the artist that he is today without the guidance and tutelage of his instructors throughout his developmental years growing up in Philadelphia.
The very first dance school Jameel attended was Gwendolyn Bye Dance Center, where he was introduced to the culture of codified techniques such as Classical Ballet, Dunham, Graham, Horton, Jazz, and Tap.
Following Jameel’s tenure at Gwendolyn Bye Dance Center, he went on to further his pursuit in the art of dance at The Philadelphia High School for the Creative & Performing Arts (CAPA 2009-2013). It was there where Jameel was taken under the wing of the legendary LaDeva Davis. Upon entering his senior year, Jameel was appointed the title of dance captain from LaDeva Davis herself as well as a principal company member of CAPA’s dance company.
In addition to Jameel’s training at CAPA, he attended Eleone Dance Unlimited as a scholarship student, while simultaneously dancing for Eleone Dance Theater’s pre-professional company “Eleone Connections”. It was there where he would also be appointed the position of dance captain by none other than Shawn Lamere-Williams. In the midst of his ventures at both CAPA & Eleone, Jameel was selected to be a full scholarship recipient to attend The Rock School for Ballet’s annual summer intensive (2012).

Upon graduating from CAPA, Jameel furthered his training as an undergraduate student at The Mason Gross School of The Arts (Rutgers University), majoring in dance education.
Once he moved back to Philadelphia, Jameel started his tenure as a touring company member with Eleone Dance Theater where he would train with notable instructors such as former Ballet X, Complexions, and Philadanco alumni, Gary Jeter.
In the summer of 2014, Jameel was awarded a full scholarship to attend Anthony Burrell’s infamous “Breaking Barriers” dance intensive, which was geared towards extensive training in both concert & commercial dance techniques.
In 2016 he would begin his journey as a company member with Phildanco, where he would rigorously train 5-6 days a week; taking classes with legendary dance instructors such as Joan Myers Brown, Kim Bears-Bailey, Debora Chase, Deborah Manning St. Charles, and Milton Myers amongst a bevy of other notable instructors. Throughout the duration of time he spent training & performing with Philadanco (2016-2022) Jameel would go on to expand his knowledge of dance & movement through the introduction to techniques such as Cunningham, Limon, and Pearl Primus.
In the summer of 2022, Jameel participated in Jeremy Green’s Behind The Movement intensive (ATL,GA) , a week-long intensive that served as not only a great commercial dance training program, but a great networking opportunity for upcoming dancers & choreographers alike.
In the summer of 2024 Jameel was awarded a full scholarship to attend Regional Dance America’s National Choreography Intensive as an emerging choreographer (Dayton, OH). Through the NCI program, Jameel had the pleasure of participating in choreography composition workshops, as well as music theory classes led by Janis Brenner and Jerome Begin of The Julliard School.
